This artwork responds dynamically to the weather. A wind sensor on the gallery roof registers the wind speed and direction and relays data to the control system that drives fans in each tube. The height of the floating spheres fluctuates according to changes in the speed and direction of the wind.

As part of Museums Sheffield, the Museum’s weather station at Weston Park has been recording the city’s weather for over 120 years. The station is managed by Sheffield Galleries and Museum Trust, as part of the national network of meteorological observation stations.
